Inflatable pool birthday party

My little boy turned two this summer, and even though I just had Baby A I still wanted to throw him a big, fun party with lots of baking and décor (sleep be damned!).  Even though we live near the beach, I decided it was much easier to have a backyard inflatable pool party than try to pack everybody and everything up, and it turned out perfect.  We celebrated Baby K turning two, but also my friends and family got to meet sweet newborn Baby A.

We had two big inflatable pools in the yard and a few hours of beautiful sunshine (it’s been a rainy summer).  My husband manned the BBQ for burgers and hot-dogs and there was a table of sweets and treats outside…until it did start raining and everything got brought indoors.  I didn’t have a particular theme in mind other than a “backyard blow up pool party” until I found the inspiration for that adorable cake, then it was easy to find all kinds of cute beach party/pool party/under-the-sea party snacks.

I had stayed up all night working on the cake and was frantically decorating cookies when the first guests arrived.  Thank goodness it was my amazing sister in law and niece, who immediately got to work getting the dessert table completely set up (using a little chicken scratch schematic I had drawn in the party planning stages!).  I took Baby A upstairs to breastfeed and peaked out the window to see how their progress was, it was perfect, they are amazing!

All the kids had so much fun and I had such a great time seeing my friends and family.  It was especially nice to have so many loving hands to hold Baby A and play with the kids so I could enjoy my little two-year-old on his special day!  He loved all his gifts…except for the frog shaped miniature urinal and Toy Story Underwear me and my husband got for him…someone was not ready to let go of diapers!  Spoiler Alert: we potty trained him shortly after the party and it went smashing; took a little longer than it did for his sister but we used the exact same potty training technique (minus the stickers, he’s a candy man)!

Quirky Monkey Bear Two Wild

I even pulled out the beautiful hand made “Two Wild” teddy bear generously gifted to Baby J by the Quirky Monkey when she turned two (you can see her Dinos and Donuts 2nd Birthday Party here) and did a little re-gifting to Baby K.  It’s still in perfect condition, the colours are just as vibrant as ever, and it is equally as cute in his little toddler arms!  Thanks again, Quirky Monkey!

Now, I know you’re thinking, “It’s September, is your yard really this green?” and the answer, of course, is that it’s taken me two months to get this blog post together hahahah!  #3under4!!  I’m telling you, this is literally the first time I’ve turned on my computer since Baby A was born!  I have soooo many pictures to dump off my phone…

  1. Incredible. Laurie says it’s a typical sleep deprived mom story. The cake is phenomenal, and all the deserts look super. The whole spread is creative genius from the shark fin cupcakes to the dolphin bananas. I am very impressed.

    1. Yes, Laurie is exactly right, sleep deprived but still wanting to make something special (especially for the middle child)! I was lucky to get a lot of help from my husband and friends and a lot of inspiration from Pinterest!! Thank you so much for always reading and commenting, Timothy, you are seriously the best!!

      1. You are welcome. You have made the best choice in life to be a mom, you love being a mom, and you are doing an incredible job of it. I like reading your posts. You are so positive and uplifting. You have a very special blog.

      2. Since being a mom does not always get much respect these days, and as it seems that many women are coerced, for lack of a better word, to regret becoming moms, I like to give you encouragement. This world needs a lot more moms like you.
